The Jungle

I was asked to read this book (The Jungle) as a freshmen in college and did. I will not say that I was excited to be asked to read it again. This book I find to be very hard to read. I have a very weak stomach when it comes to blood and violence and this just erks me. It is hard to think about how brutal people can be to these animals. I understand that it is your job to do kill animals, but there are acceptable humane ways to do it. I do not enjoy reading this book, but I do think it served its purpose to a tee. I think it shed light on a subject that people need to know about and really gave the public a look at the truth. I do not think it is a bad book, I just think that it is not a book for me.

  2. I think its interesting to read about the history of such places.. and it is definitely an eye opener to learn about how cruel these places could have been.

  3. I agree. Aside from the fact that I usually dislike literature that's written in the vernacular, it's incredibly graphic! I think it raises a good question: Would you want to know what's being put in our meat? Or would you rather stay blissfully unaware?
