I was asked to read this book (
The Jungle) as a freshmen in college and did. I will not say that I was excited to be asked to read it again. This book I find to be very hard to read. I have a very weak stomach when it comes to blood and violence and this just erks me. It is hard to think about how brutal people can be to these animals. I understand that it is your job to do kill animals, but there are acceptable
humane ways to do it. I do not enjoy reading this book, but I do think it served its purpose to a tee. I think it shed light on a subject that people need to know about and really gave the public a look at the truth. I do not think it is a bad book, I just think that it is not a book for me.
Im with you 100%. This is definitely not a book that Id pick up to read on my own.
ReplyDeleteI think its interesting to read about the history of such places.. and it is definitely an eye opener to learn about how cruel these places could have been.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Aside from the fact that I usually dislike literature that's written in the vernacular, it's incredibly graphic! I think it raises a good question: Would you want to know what's being put in our meat? Or would you rather stay blissfully unaware?
